Ways to reduce leakage

The method of reducing leakage is also the method of sealing. The essence of sealing is to prevent mass exchange between the sealed space and the surrounding medium. There are several ways to reduce leakage:
(1) Minimize the number of sealing parts When operating containers and pipeline equipment, sealing parts should be set as little as possible, especially for those containers and pipeline equipment equipped with flammable, explosive, toxic, highly corrosive media, and sealed connections should be used less.
(2) Plugging or isolating the leakage channel for static sealing, the use of various sealing gaskets and sealants in its sealing part can greatly improve the sealing performance of the connection; For dynamic seals, stuffing boxes or forming fillers can be used in the sealing part to isolate the leakage channel, that is, barriers are set up in the middle of the channel to block or isolate the leakage channel.
(3) Increase the flow resistance in the leakage channel. The fluid medium will encounter resistance when passing through the leakage channel, and the size of the resistance is related to the pressure difference on both sides of the channel and the passage length. Flow resistance is proportional to the length of the leakage channel and inversely proportional to the equivalent radius of the leakage channel to the power of 4 (for laminar flow states) or to the power of 3 (for molecular flow states). For gasket sealing, increase the width of gasket appropriately, that is, increase the length of leakage channel; Increasing the sealing pressure of the gasket, that is, reducing the equivalent radius of the leakage channel, can increase the leakage resistance to improve the tightness of the connection.
(4) Permanent or semi-permanent connections can be formed by welding, brazing or using a binder to prevent fluid leakage.
